COLLADA is an XML database schema that enables 3-D authoring applications to freely exchange digital assets without loss of information, enabling multiple software packages to be combined into extremely powerful tool chains.
The COLLADA schema is the result of a research project within Sony Computer Entertainment America Research & Development (SCEA R&D). COLLADA is a COLLAborative Design Activity led by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) R&D that involves designers, developers, and interested parties from within SCEA as well as key third-party companies in the 3-D industry. It is now an industry standard technology under the auspices of The Khronos Group Inc.
